I’ve not been the best with my social media posting schedule this year, but now that we’re past the halfway point of 2024, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to catch up with you on what's been going on in the studio so far.
I used to start each year writing down pages of goals and things I wanted to achieve, but after the burnout I went through 2 years ago, I decided to do something different.
No big goals.
No long checklists.
Just one intention - to create whatever I’m most excited about.
The rest can fall into place one way or another.
LeBron and Buakaw Commission
So I kicked off January with a two-piece commission from a collector in California. One was of the legendary basketball player Kobe Bryant, and the second of kickboxing champion Buakaw Banchamek.
Both on 8x12”, and Kobe was adorned with 24-carat gold leaf, which is the first time I used gold leaf in a painting. Topped up with the classic texture, these turned out very interesting.
Also, the collector loved them and followed up with another order of 24x36” art prints of both artworks.
Sha'Carri Richardson in a new art style
Throughout the first 2 months I kept feeling into what I was most excited to create, and one idea kept popping up. But it wasn’t just excitement, I was equally nervous to do it!
This idea had been brewing in my mind for about 3 years, but I kept procrastinating becuase it involved more technical work that I didn’t know how to do, it’s more expensive to execute, and also it wasn’t easy to find a workshop that could laser cut a piece this size.
But I kept coming back to my one intention for the year, so I broke each task down into small pieces and got to work.
And let me tell you, it’s been the most exhilerating artwork I’ve ever worked on! I was literally giddy to the studio and make progress on it, and there were so many suprises at each step.
Sha'Carri has been on my radar for a while, and I thought this new format was the perfect way to capture her genius.
Racing Commission
Another commission order arrived from another collector from the UK, who owns multiple original paintings of mine. This was a 12x16" canvas painting, and enjoyed the process of working together to bring the vision to life!
Jurgen Klopp Artwork
I have also created a portrait of Jurgen Klopp overlayed with the Liverpool FC team, as so many of you asked for it. I’ve embellished the first 5 fine art prints with the LFC signature red as a treat for the first collectors (only 2 left!). The Original Klopp painting is also available for purchase.
England Euro 2024 Painting
The lastest painting I’ve been working on is this group piece of Team England 2024.
